New Friendship House under construction

When Highland resident Manuela Standard attended her first Haven House meeting, coordinators knew she had more than a just a passing interest in her community. Years later, she's poised to become a new community coordinator for the new Friendship House to be completed in the Barksdale Annex. "We hope to have more neighbors be more connected to each other," said Standard.

It's the second house in the neighborhood, and Community Renewal officials say it has worked to reduce crime there. "It's always exciting to know what Friendship Houses bring to the community," said Coordinator Mack McCarter. "It's special to see the actual building take place."
