Adult Renewal Academy Boom

At first, it took a little convincing for area adults to enroll in Shreveport Bossier Community Renewal's Adult Renewal Academy. "At first, I had to scrape the bottom," said ARA coordinator Gloria Millender. "College was so far out of reach. When they found out they could do it, I had no problem getting them here."

Classes have ranged from GED courses to college-level computer courses. The Academy operates out of area Friendship Houses and has formed a partnership with Louisiana Technical College and St. Catherine's Community Center.

More classes are currently being offered at more Friendship Houses. "We have been growing. There are so many students coming, we had to change to have two sets of classes here," said Millender. This service is a community outreach of Shreveport Bossier Community Renewal.
