Signs of caring are growing where seeds of renewal are planted
For release: Oct. 7, 2009
Like beautiful flowers growing in gardens across the region, white-and-red We Care signs are blooming where seeds of renewal have been planted in neighborhoods throughout Shreveport and Bossier City. The yard signs are being displayed in all sections of the cities by caring residents who are working with their neighbors and Community Renewal International to make the community a safer, more caring place. The effort is part of Community Renewal's campaign to raise the visibility of caring and encourage residents by reminding them they are not alone when it comes to restoring the foundation of safe and caring communities. The signs impressed officials with the Clinton Global Initiative when they visited Community Renewal recently. "When you can drive through a neighborhood and see ‘We Care, We Care, We Care,' there is something very powerful about that," said Corey O'Hara, a senior associate with CGI. "It does not mean all the problems are solved. But it does mean those people are now tapped into something bigger than themselves." Yard signs are available at no charge at the Community Renewal office at 838 Margaret Place. Residents are asked to get their sign today, display it in front of their home or business and add to the visibility of caring in our community. Call us at 425-3222 if you have any questions. Community Renewal International is a nonprofit effort to restore safe and healthy communities through caring relationships. Founded in 1994, Community Renewal reaches at-risk youth through Friendship Houses built in impoverished neighborhoods, strengthens education through the Adult Renewal Academy, partners with The Fuller Center for Housing and connects caring partners who turn their neighborhoods into safe havens of friendship and support.
